A scenic documentary on the life of the former guerrilla historian and professor Margarita Urias Hermosillo, Mexico City-based performance collective Lagartijas Tiradas al Sol goes to the past, to the dozens of guerrilla groups that formed in Mexico during the 1960s and 1970s, to propose “an attempt to recover the idea of utopia and the ability to create new thoughts that allow us to imagine fairer worlds.” El Rumor del Incendio mines the complex history of armed movements in Mexico in the second half of the twentieth century, and places the political actions and stories of the collective’s family members in the 1960s and 1970s in context with that history, all the while questioning the motivation to take arms and abandon comfort in pursuit of a transformation.
