[100 Images] Seadrift Part II

(Aug 8th, 2014)

Another road trip out to Seadrift, TX. This time, we got to spend a few hours exploring the little town.

Founded in 1888, and judging from historical photos on display near the Art Boat art center, it was a town on the verge on becoming a place to be.

It survives today as a shrimp port, and a oasis of sorts away from chemical plants and the city of Victoria.

Working backwards. A quick visit to McKinney, TX. Sweet little town. Revitalized. It is surviving as opposed to dying, as have seen in other towns like Baytown and La Porte.

A road trip to Dallas.

“Vocation Pictures” are perhaps the most misunderstood and maligned form of photography. Those jokes about relative and friends making you sit through hours of slideshow of their recent holiday trip, are really more about the narcissism of the persons showing rather than about the bad photos.

The pictures taken are about a very specific time/place in your/their history, good or bad. The next time someone else visits the place, its going to look and feel different. There will be different stories.

“Look! This is us at Mount Fuji!”
“Yes. Looks great. Tell me now, what was happening that day where you were when you were there? Tell me about that old man walking behind you?”

In this particular series, images from a visit to Bishop Arts District, Watter Creek, Allen Marriott Courtyard and Buccee’s at Madisonville.

Dragonflies and their relatives are fascinating insects to photography. Caught this Damselfly just hanging out on this one spot on this rope at an artificial nature enclave in Dallas. It actually let me get close. Beautiful creature.

The City of Alvin celebrates its founding with a Festival. Still technically mid-summer, but that did not stop local parade enthusiasts to give it their all.

I also learned that the 1823 Brazoria Militia never actually disbanded since its founding. Their descendants has since revived the organization and has been travelling around with full on regalia and real firing of canons of the period. Very cool.

A time warped moment where the 1823 Brazoria Militia meets with a Continental Army officer.
